Obama Appoints Head of OLC and CIA Not Tainted by Bush Torture/Illegal Spying Policies

Very positive development. One can hope this is a signal that there will not be tolerance of torture and illegal spying on Americans committed in America's name.

As you recall, Harman's name was floated for the CIA head. The NY Times had this to say about Obama not picking her:
Members of Mr. Obama’s transition also raised concerns about other candidates, even some Democratic lawmakers with intelligence experience. Representative Jane Harman of California, formerly the senior Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, was considered for the job, but she was ruled out as a candidate in part because of her early support for some Bush administration programs like the domestic eavesdropping program.
It's pretty simple - you can't have people enforce accountability for such illegalities that they themselves have let happen, voiced support for, or are implicated in. It was true for Brennan, and it's true for Harman. We'll have to see how this progresses.
